“My 12-year old took a year off from club ball after breaking his hand on a pitch — the fear of getting hit again created a mental blocker where he couldn’t swing the bat in a game. We tried every coaching technique available, every piece of protective equipment, and saw two mental performance coaches who specialized in helping players with this setback. Nothing remotely worked until we started training with Hunter. After a few on-field sessions, it was like he breathed confidence (and the enjoyment of the game) back into my son. Hunter has a superpower of translating growth mindset to kids — the right amount of words at the right time to create the right nudge. And the Friday night Sandlot games with Hunter and Michael unlocked everything. It’s such a supportive environment with various club players all working out together — my son slowly worked himself up to taking live ABs and returning to his old team. “I have 3 boys all playing in different situations. The biggest difference in their games since they started working with Maverix is the change in their definition of success. This has led to a more calm and relaxed approach. For better or worse club baseball has become a pressure cooker of player, parent and coach over analysis and reliance on scorebooks and gamechanger. Success is defined by batting average, OPS, slugging and more. This leads to kids having a great season but feeling successful less than 40 percent of the time. Maverix has taught them that on top of hits, all hard-hit balls and competitive at bats in which you are a difficult out are also examples of success. My kids feel successful more like 80 percent of the time. Thanks to this increase in confidence they are performing well and being productive at the plate more often than they were prior to seeing Maverix.”
